5 Quick and Easy Social Media Posts That Get Engagement

By | May 15, 2023

If you’re running a social media channel then you’ll be familiar with the nightmare of not knowing what to post. Social media posts can be daunting to come up with and when you’ve got a few different channels to handle each day then it can become overwhelming.

Which is why I’ve put together this list of 5 quick and easy social media posts that will guarantee you’ll never run out of social media content again. They’re also almost guaranteed to get some engagement if used correctly which makes them very effective for any social media strategy.

Quick Social Media Post 1: Sharing Links to Fact Sites

There are several sites on the web that specialise solely in sharing facts about EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. All you’ve got to do is find 1 of these sites, find an article that’s appropriate to you, and then share that.

What’s nice about sharing facts is that it’s not political or always business related. There could be a comet passing by the earth and you could use that opportunity to share an article about 10 interesting facts about comets. Share this article onto Twitter using a trending hashtag about said comet and you’re guaranteed to get some engagement from fans of the comet (yes, comets have fans).

You will always be a planet in my eyes

Use this type of post around lunchtime, between 11 to 1 to reach as many people as possible, with the idea being that someone would see this and then share a fun fact with the people around them. Remember, people engage with content that affects them so if they’re interested in the article then they’ll probably engage with the post.

When it comes to writing the caption, start with a fact from the article and then a call to action. This way you catch people’s attention and then show them the path to finding more interesting facts as the 1 that you shared. You’ve got to find the best/funniest fact to make this work which can take some time, but the results will speak for themselves.

Quick Social Media Post 2: Share a Link from your Blog/Website/Portfolio/Work

If you’re a business or brand then you’ll likely have a website or portfolio of work somewhere online. This sort of post is not only quick and easy but also increases the reach of your brand/business for next to nothing.

In most cases, half of the work will already be done and all you’ll have to do is share the content on social media. This is a useful technique if you find yourself truly lost for ideas, but it does require more thought than the other posts. The biggest hurdle is making sure that you’re reaching your target audience as your content will likely be specific or specialised information.

You can post this type of content at almost anytime of the day which gives it a nice edge over everything else. It does depend on what your content is, and who your target audience is and when they’ll be active, but that’s a per case basis which gives you some freedom. All you’ve got to do is make sure that you have a clear goal when you’re creating the social media post and work backwards.

How to Structure a Caption, Takeaway From post, Why you should read post plus call to action, link to post
Remember, the goal is to get people clicking through to your other page

If we think about what a social media post is, it’s a brief one off piece of content with a goal. In most cases, that goal is to covert people to another site or to expand the reach of the brand. Think of what your goal is and work backwards from there. For example, if your goal is to get people to read your latest post then share something from the article before telling viewers that they can find out more by reading the article. This way you’re giving value whilst also providing a hook and reason to click through to the article.

Quick Social Media Post 3: Share a Meme

People engage with content that affects them and memes that make people laugh are guaranteed to be engaged with. Even though you’d be better off making memes yourself, you can still achieve a lot by using memes you’ve found around the web.

Memes work in a similar way to sharing facts but this time you’ve got to be more specific to your target audience. For example, if you sell tools for tradespeople then you could find a meme that’s about an issue that tradespeople face. The idea here is that tradespeople would see this meme and think of a time they’ve faced that issue which will then lead them engaging with the post.

To find good memes simply search for them on Google and then pick a few that are both funny and are high quality. If you find a meme that’s not high enough quality to share, just recreate it in Canva or even PowerPoint, and then share it as your own. If you understand who your target audience are and what makes them tick, you can even take this a step further by messing around with memes you’re editing to create more than 1 meme or to create multiple memes using 1 template.

For the caption, write something that either reflects or expands on the meme. For example, in the trades meme you could say “gotta hate when that happens” or “*takes steps to avoid x”. The idea here is to continue the joke through the caption which will hopefully add to the overall funniness of the meme.

Quick Social Media Post 4: Share a Motivational Quote

For similar reasons as to why memes work, motivational quotes can affect people which then makes them engage with the post. Motivational quotes work the same as memes however can require more work behind the scenes to make sure that they’re effective pieces of content.

Firstly, you’ve got to find some motivational quotes which is as easy as a Google search. All you need to know is the quote and the author. Copy and paste 100’s of these quotes and their authors into a word document and save that for later. You now have a long list of motivational quotes to work with. If you want to add some character to your quotes, then look for motivation quotes from your favourite films too.

The quickest way to work with motivational quotes is to simply quote them and the author in a text only post. Include a few hashtags and you’ve got yourself a contribution to #motivationmondays. This method can work but since there will be thousands of others doing it, you probably won’t see much engagement unless you already have a loyal following. Nevertheless, this is a quick way to make an easy post.

If you want to get more engagement with motivational quotes then you should use Canva to add more vibe to them. This can take some time to find the perfect background for your quote however you will be proud of the results. Look for backgrounds that complement the quote (for ideas type the quote into Google and see what others have used) and then put everything together. Play with fonts and placing until you get something you’re happy with and then post that. You can sometimes make a motivational picture look really nice by making the text the darkest colour, or a shade of it, from the background picture.

Quick Social Media Post 5: Share an Update/Thought

You can achieve an awful lot by just “speaking” in a social media post. Those posts where it’s someone sharing their views on life, or how they’ve overcome a challenge, or even a story of their waiter going above and beyond at a restaurant. They’re simple and relatively quick posts to put together but they have an incredible impact.

Humans are naturally storytellers, mostly due to our days of being in tribes, and you can achieve a lot with a simple story. If we take the story of the waiter, it could begin with the importance of keeping in touch with friends and then talk about the rewards of a good work ethic. A simple story can touch on so many topics which increases the reach of the post because it’ll likely have an effect on someone.

Basic Story Structure, Beginning - Introduce goal, then introduce problem , Middle - Discuss challenges faced, attempts made to fix problem, and consequences of problem occurring, Ending - Talk about solution that worked, how things have changed after solving problem (new systems in place etc), and any personal lessons learnt
This structure will allow you to touch on a variety of topics throughout a story

The most common methods you’ll see of this will be a weight loss journey or a professional update. These stories may seem repetitive, everyone has overcome challenge before, but the best type of story is one where you overcome incredible challenges. Even if the events aren’t recent (or even real), you can still share these stories by changing the tone to be a tale of overcoming challenge or a look back at troubling times.

You could also just post a simple update such as a work lunch or an update on something you’re doing. These posts don’t often have a goal other than to have something be posted on social media, but they can have some benefits such as making you seem more human. The trick here is to balance out how often you post this type of content unless your page is all about your thoughts/life.

In Summary

  • Sharing links to fact sites is a great way to get engagement around lunchtime
  • Sharing links to your blog or page is good method for getting conversions
  • Sharing funny memes will get you engagement and can be used to target your target audience
  • Sharing motivational quotes is very easy but can have results
  • Sharing personal updates/thoughts is an easy way to appear human and connect with others
